Can't copy files from CD to My computer hard drive

I'm new at this but can't copy a learning
cd file from the cd to my hard drive.
I followed instructions, unchecked the hide file
extensions, etc. - highlighted the files and when I
try to copy it tells me I can't have access - error.
Am using Windows XP - can anyone help please?
I need to copy them on my hard drive so I can use them
in exercises and so they are readable.
