copying CD files

I got a CD with 2500 items on it. when I tried to copy all of them at once to
my flash memory I got an error message stating that the CD could not be read.
I tried accessing a file and quickly doing the copy so that the CD would be
spinning when I executed the copy command, but no joy. How do I do a mass
file copy from a CD to either my flash memory or my hard drive?

There is a good probability that the CD drive has failed. Put the CD in
another computer and check whether or not it is readable. If it is, then
do the copying. OTOH, there is also a good possibility that the CD has
become defective, particularly if it is a CD-RW. Try once more, making
sure that the surface of the CD is clean without any smudges or scratches.
Finally, if all else fails, then go back to the original files.

On reexamination I found one folder on the CD that was inaccessible. The
other folders were OK. I plan to complain to the manufacturer.
