Can't copy/cut & paste

OK, here's a new one on me. Anything (file, folder, whatever) I try to copy
or cut will not paste. That is, I can copy it with the shortcut menu, but
the paste command is not available when I try to paste. WTF!??

Try rebooting and see if the paste function is restored.
 
Well, it was, but what the hell would cause that? Bizarre...
