can't connect to new local printer during remote desktop session

I've been using remote desktop with XP for over a year,
with great success printing to my local Epson stylus 800
and 600 printers. I just bought a new HP 2510 photosmart
printer, which is now loaded as my default printer
locally. But when I am in a remote desktop session, only
the old local printers show up as options. I've tried
creating new remote connections, but that doesn't work.
Any ideas?

Brent,

Have you received an answer to your question? I am having the same problem.

On the client PC, for your network connection, make sure that both 1)
Client for Microsoft Networks and 2) File & Printer Sharing are
installed AND enabled (i.e. checked). Then reconnect using Remote
Desktop (with the local printer checkbox checked) and see if your local
printer shows up in the list of printers when you try to print
something.

This information came from Microsoft Support and worked for me, as I
was having the same problem you are.

For the question about the PC that works for one local printer but does
not work for a newly installed local printer, the above would not make
sense, since one local printer was already working on that PC. It is
not a requirement that the printer itself be shared, as mine are not
and I can still print to them using Remote Desktop, but, you might try
sharing the printer just to see.
