Can't connect laptop to wireless network

I set up my wireless network on my desktop (used flash drive system), went
into Lynksys & set wireless router up. Tried to run my Lynksys software on
my laptop but says it can't access internet. The laptop sees my wireless
network but won't connect. What am I missing?

Okay, there are many things that can go wrong. First, you have to make sure
that you are getting a valid IP address from you Linksys product. Run from
command line "IPCONFIG /ALL" and verify that you're getting an IP Address
other than 169.xxx.xxx.xxx.

Then if you setup WEP, try shutting that off first and make sure you can get
an IP address.

Then try and ping 4.2.2.2 or yahoo.com, command line "Ping 4.2.2.2" hit enter.

Hope this gets you on your way.

Most important once you get up and running, go to linksys and lookup an
article on how to secure your wireless network. It will be more secure.
