So I went away on vacation for 5 days and my computer was working
fine. When I came back my computer had done a windows update
and restarted itself. I have a D-link wireless adapter for my desktop
computer and a lynksys router. When I logged myself into windows
(I have windows XP) it said it is not able to connect to my preferred
wireless network. I restarted my computer and still nothing. It still
detects the networks in the area (which are all locked) so it shouldn't
be my adapter and my room mates computers are still connecting to
the router... this one really has me stumped! Anyone have any ideas?
No settings on the router were changed and the only thing on my
comp that changed was my windows update.

Thank you for your post. I had the same problem yesterday. After reading your post, I restored both my computers to the point prior to the last windows updates and voila, I could connect again. Not sure how long I should not update for but for now it's working.
