I am trying to copy some of my DVD's, and I'm having trouble. I'm not good
with computers so please bear with me. I keep trying to copy and burn dvd
movies to a blank dvd-r cd and it keeps telling me "please inert writable
media before continuing". I also get "please insert a writable cd into drive
e". I was using memorex dvd-r, so I bought fujifilm with writting speed 8x
instead. I still got the same answer. I tried using sonic, nero, and cheeta
thety all told me the same thing. What am I doing wrong, can someone please
help? I'd appreciate you help.

What DVD burner do you have? If it is a $x or slower burner, it will
not be able to recognize 8x blank media. You will have to use 4x or
slower media. Does your burner write both DVD-R and DVD+R or only one
of them?

You need to be using a CD-RW disc. Sounds like you are using a non-
rewritable disc.

I don't know what burner I have, how do I check what it is? I just bought
this dell with a dvd burner close to a year ago. It's not very old. I did try
the other 4x dvd disks and it told me the same thing. How do I know if my
burner burns dvd-r or dvd+r, is there a way for me to check? Sorry if I'm
frustrating you, like I said I'm not good with computers. Thank you very much
for your help.

I have used and burnt music on both cd-r and cd-rws before and it worked
fine, no problems. I'm not sure if it's the disks. Thank you for trying to
help.

Commercial DVD movies can't be simply copied. They contain
encryption and other types of Anti-Piracy protections on them.
For a while a software program DVD-XCOPY was available to
do what you're seeking, but the movie industry shut them down.
Without getting into legalities, you should do a Google search for
Copying DVDs, you'll likely find a long listing of software and
sites dedicated to how to accomplish it.

You say you have Nero. It has a small program in the Programs->Nero->Nero
toolkit called NeroInfoTool. Run it and it will tell you a lot about your
DVD writer.

What software package are you using? The systems own burning does not
support DVD nor does it do copying of CD, apart from copying files down
to hard disk and starting over

I don't know what you mean by software package. I tried using sonic, which
came on my computer, nero, which was on my old computer and cheeta, which I
downloaded to try to see if it was the programs I was using. I tried burning
onto dvd+r and dvd-r and it states it's not even in the tray for both types.
If I use cd-r or cd-rw for music or mpeg it burns fine. Could it be that I
have to put movies on a different kind of disks? Thanks for trying to help.

I copyied 22 disks with my W98se machine and NERO6. Now in my WXP w/SP2
machine it no longer recognizes Memorex DVD-R 8X disks. It is a I/OMAGIC
IDVD16DD (Benq 162). It does recognize/ copy Maxell DVD-R 8X disks. Tech
support (I/OMAGIC) gave up. Said to buy only certain media.
