Dvd r+ has recently gone to 8x. I am using a NEC 1100a DVD RW that came
preinstalled on my Dell. I can not burn media onto the 8x DVDs. I could ONE
time only but no more. I have checked www.dvdrwservices.com for a firmware
upgrade but cannot find any. How can I get my NEC DVD RW to burn onto 8x media

The 1100A is a 4X rated drive. Disks designed for higher speed probably
*won't* work, and you certainly cannot burn faster than 4X

Not sure if it's applicable, but there is a 1.93 Firmware flash update
for your 1100a. Unfortunately, the actual link is in a pop up window
so you'll have to navigate from the primary US support page to get
to it.
http://www.necus.com/support/
Click in Drivers and Support Box,
Choose CD-R
You see a link to DVD-R/W firmware prefaced with "New"
Read the instructions and also the Readme for the flash and see what
if any media support enhancements it provides.

I know I cannot burn at 8x speeds I was just hoping on could burn media onto
the 8x DVD at my speed (2x). For example, my DVD only writes at 2.4, but I am
able to burn media onto 4X DVD. I actually burnt media onto a 8X DVD
(obviously at my speed of 2X. . . according to NERO) ONE TIME ONLY. I guess
the question should be how come I could only burn onto a 8xDVD one time and
one time only. Now the drive will not even recognize the DVD 8x when I just
made a backup copy of Spiderman 2. Thanks to all replies thus far

Sorry, I kinda realized after I responded that you meant it appears not
to burn at all on 8x media.....
That is wierd.....I have 4 burners, 2 max burn speeds are 4x and they
burn perfectly to 8x capable disks...with Nero of course(it's all I use)

Hmmmmm, I think maybe a wider search for a firmwire upgrade may be
needed..........Did you contact Dell? If you have tech support still
free why not, give them a holler.....I'll see what I can find for
ya....I actually never heard of an issue like this before.
Did you try any other burning software?
