Can't burn CDs

I can't burn CDs, every once in a while my computer would reject a disk. Now
it rejects all disks. They are brand new but, I can't write data or music to
CDs I keep getting the message ' Please insert a blank or rewritable CD into
the Philips DVDRW 9 (E:) drive' , even though there is a brand new one in
there.

What do i need to do to update or reconfigure my DVD RW drive? I'm guessing
that will be the solution?

Go to the manufacturer web page, look for a firmware update and try that.
Beyond that - what application(s) are you using to burn CD/DVDs? Tried any
others?
And even beyond that.. Could be a bad/mis-aligned laser.
Cheaper to replace the drive.

Hi, thanks for the help.

I've just run autoplay repai wiz and got the following log:
Test [Drive Notification] - Instance [E:\, Drive Type: 5]:
Result [Legacy Notification]: Problems
Result [AutoPlay V2 Notification]: Problems {
Service (Silent)
Shell (Deaf) }
Repair << [Legacy AutoPlay Event]
Step: No steps to take.
Result: This AutoPlay setting cannot be fixed. Either the device is
malfunctioning, or the wizard cannot determine the problem.
Repair << [Autoplay V2 Event]

malfunctioning, or the wizard cannot determine the problem.

I managed to get the drive working for a little bit, but I changed the
driver and now I can't get it to work again.

I've got a Philips DVD RW+DVD8631. I've found the latest firmware upgrade
GD30, but installing and upgrading makes no difference. It still doesn't
pick up the CD-Rs. I've read on other forums that my particular drive has a
bad rep.

I've been on the official download page and installed the GD30 upgrade but
I'm still stuck.

I'm using WMP and Sonic DLA, but I now know it's the driver, what else do I
do?

Cdrom.sys, storprop.dll, redbook.sys, and imapi.sys are the four signed XP
drivers you should see installed, plus the Sonic DLA unsigned drivers.. I am
not sure whether there are two or three Sonic DLA drivers for sure.. You may
need to reinstall Sonic/Roxio or just use the latest update from there site
http://www.roxio.com/enu/support/software_updates/default.html or for
Reference see, http://www.roxio.com/enu/search/default.html?q=Sonic+DLA You
should also be using RecordNow to burn to CD-R or DVD-R the DLA is used for
CD-RW or DVD-RW media, you know this right..? Check out the above links for
more info..
Hope this can help..

What burning app do you use for DVD-R, DVD-RW or CD-R, CD-RW media..?
