Can't Add Printer Port (TCPIP)

When I try to add a printer Port, through Printers, Server Properties,
(Standard TCPIP) I get a program error and lockup. I have to stop the task to
get back to the sytsem. This particular person's computer had a Canon
Mulitpass printer installed - now uninstalled (it was a real bear to
install), and I'm wondering if the install of that device may have corrupted
some windows system files.

System is: Windows XP Pro, SP2 with all updates, except IE-7.

Thanks for any help you may have.

Is the user account set as an "administrator?" This is the first
thing to check.
