can't access web-service through outlook express

Carolyn Davis

HELP!!! I can access my email through my web-service
(comcast), but can't access it through outlook express. I
have spoken with my internet service provider (comcast)
and they have guided me through the steps to ensure all
the information is correct. . .but, I am still getting
the following error message:

The host 'smtp.comcast.net' could not be found. Please
verify that you have entered the server name correctly.
Account: 'mail.comcast.net',
service: 'smtp.comcast.net', protocol: smtp, Port: 25,
Secure (SSL); No, socket error 11004, Error #: 0x800CCC0D

Can someone help me?

Gratefully,

Carolyn Davis

Sounds more like a networking/name resolution problem than an OE one. Can
you ping smtp.comcast.net from a command prompt?

Also note -

This is a group to support Outlook from the Office group of programs.
Outlook Express is a part of Internet Explorer and is a quite different
program, despite its similar name..

You will probably get a faster and more expert answer if you post this to an
Outlook Express news group.

Try posting in one of these newsgroups:
microsoft.public.windows.inetexplorer.ie5.outlookexpress for OE 5.x
microsoft.public.windows.inetexplorer.ie55.outlookexpress for OE 5.5x
microsoft.public.windows.inetexplorer.ie6_outlookexpress for OE 6.x
microsoft.public.internet.outlookexpress.mac for OE for Macintosh

If those groups aren't carried on the news server that's carrying this group
try using msnews.microsoft.com (MS's public news server that's the source
for all the microsoft.public newsgroups).

A good website for information on OE is:
http://www.tomsterdam.com/

This newsgroup is for support of Outlook 97, 98, 2000 & 2002 from the Office
family for Windows PCs. For Outlook Express (OE) support try posting in one
of
these newsgroups:
microsoft.public.inetexplorer.ie4.outlookexpress for OE 4.x
microsoft.public.windows.inetexplorer.ie5.outlookexpress for OE 5.x
http://support.microsoft.com/newsgr...blic.windows.inetexplorer.ie55.outlookexpress
for OE 5.5x
http://support.microsoft.com/newsgr...ublic.windows.inetexplorer.ie6_outlookexpress
for OE 6.x
http://support.microsoft.com/newsgr...;newsgroupsmicrosoft.public.internet.mail.mac
for the Macintosh version of OE
http://support.microsoft.com/newsgr...ess.mac&SLCID=US&sd=GN&id=fh;en-us;newsgroups

If those groups aren't carried on the news server that's carrying this group
try using msnews.microsoft.com (MS's public news server that's the source
for all the microsoft.public newsgroups). The links under the newsgroup
references are for use with MS's web newsreader (not exactly the best way to
post but it works for some people)

Also a good source of Outlook Express info can be found here:

Post all replies to the group to keep the discussion intact. Due to the
Swen virus, all e-mails sent to my actual account will be deleted w/out
reading.
