Can't access Page Setup

I have XL 2003 sp2. On my laptop, when I try to go to Page Setup, it says
"Printer currently unavailable. Try another". I am not trying to print!
This only happens when my other computer and it's printer (connected via
router) are turned off. When I turn that other computer and it's printer on,
then I can get to my XL page setup on my laptop. Here's the kicker; my
laptop Page Setup commands for both WORD 2003 and PowrePoint 2003 work just
fine without the other computer turned on.

I searched MS database and found this problem for XL 97, which was
attributed to a lack of printer drivers. My laptop has printer drivers and
prints just fine when that's what I want to do. For now, though, I would
like to be able to get to my laptop's XL 2003 Page Setup menu without having
to turn my other computer and printer on. I have tried both reinstalling XL
and also repairing it. No luck.

Help and thank you.

Office 2003 installs a virtual print driver known as "Office document image
writer". Could it be that this driver is the one selected as "default
printer" in the windows printer control panel?

Another thing you could try is install a new dummy printer driver (whatever
comes off the list of known printer drivers), set it as default, and see if
Excel 2003 behaves the same.

Stephen-
Thanks for the note. Oddly, it was my Canon printer that was selected as
the default. When I switched the default to the Office Document Image
Writer, the problem went away. Of course, when I do that, I have to manually
switch back to my Canon printer when I actually do want to print.
