sam

i was moving files to my other hard drive when an error
message came up saying something like cruppt file cant
move, then stop and now cant access my other harddrive...
when i click on the drive letter in internet explorer it
say D: is not accessable, the file name, directory name
or volume label syntax is incorrect, i tried accessin the
drive thru mange and disk manage ment but it say locked
out... i chkdsk the d: drive and it says ''windows found
errors on the disk but will not fix them because disk
checking was done without the /f parameter. errors in
the file allocation table fat corrected. the specific
disk appears to be a non windows disk. then when i run
chkdsk /f it ask me to dismount?''
my drive drive is not fat thought its ntbs.
i lose my other drive any help out there? or how can i
recover what was on harddrive or what program if any can
recover whats on ther if i cant get it to work

thanks

Hi,

Run chkdsk /f and dismount the drive (you can't run /f if the drive is
accessible by the system).

typed D: after C; TO GET TO D-DRIVE, now i can see my D:
hardrive on manage in my C-drive it says disk 0 aND DISK
1 in disk managenet on the bottom but on the top in under
volume i see D: and C:, C:DRIVE is disk 0 but the d drive

meshed up with my cd-rom

how do i fix that?

i added my last responce to this email in case someone
just went to my second reply which is an edit of my
original post, after i did explained below in quotes,
then i rebooted and now im locked out of my disk

''ok i did that i dismounted from my c drive with ms dos

Hi Sam,

OK, slow down and try explaining CLEARLY what you are seeing and doing. Do
not mingle sentences together, use punctuation, use paragraphs, use capital
letters to start each sentence, just like you were taught in school. It
helps make what you write understandable. I've read your reply 4 times now
and still can't comprehend what you are trying to say. What do you mean by
ms-dos? Do you mean the command prompt from within WinXP? Why do you think
it is confused with your CD drive? What is telling you something about 10MB
capacity?

In disk management at the top where it says volume,
layout, type, i see my C-Drive and D-Drive. C-Drive is
Fat 32, status healthy (system) 117gbs. this is how it
has always been..

in the top part of disk management My D-drive says
fat, healthy (active) 10 mb capacity.... this drive D:
(my second drive) should be 152 gb and not 10 mbs. it
should be ntfs and not fat

on the bottom right side of disk management i see disk 0
(zero) which is my working C-drive. which all is fine
with disk 0(zero). on the other hand my d-drive (disk 1)
which in here it says 152gb fat healthy (active) and it
is and should be 156gbs but its Fat and it should be
ntfs because i installed it as ntfs... my d-drive isnt
working.

yes ms-dos is the command prompt from within my windows
xp pro. i just assumed since i see 10 mbs of capacity on
the top part of disk management and in my D-drive and on
the bottom my D-Drive is 152gb, its a 160 gb drive so i
figured somewhere the d-drive is confused between 10 and
152 gb. it was working correctly and all the numbers
were correct but when i moved files from my c-drive to my
d-drive it started meshing up with differnt numbers in my
d-drive.

thanks

Hi Sam,

Ok, I've got a clearer picture now. The first step is to run chkdsk /r on
the drive by booting from the WinXP CD and loading the Recovery Console.

HOW TO: Install and Use the Recovery Console in Windows XP [Q307654]

If that doesn't help, you may need to use some more specialized tools like
mbrwork from the free downloads section of www.terabyteunlimited.com
