Can't access any HTTPS websites!!!

PLEASE HELP! I'm helping my old man out, his PC has suddenly stopped
accessing HTTPS pages. He is connected to the house LAN via a Lynksys
router/cable modem with my bother & sister, their PC's can still
access HTTPS pages.

XP Pro, SP1, IE6

I've been looking into this for about 3 hours now and no joy, really
stuck. Checked all his settings, no firewall on the XP machine, i have
downloaded and installed netscape and mozilla, but can't get either of
these browsers to even connect to the internet! I've changed his IP
address on the LAN, re-set all the IE settings back to default, tried
a massive variation of security settings, turned off the norton
antivirus. There is no firewall on, XP Pro firewall is disabled,
norton firewall is disabled.

Any suggestions?

Chris.

I've seen a lot of this.
The only solution I've found yet is to create a new user and log in as
that user.

If someone else has a better answer I've love to learn it myself.

Chris.

Go to Tools, Internet Options, Advanced tab, scroll to the bottom of the
list, check Use SSL 2.0, Use SSL 3.0, Use TLS 1.0 (this isn't necessary,
I believe, but check it anyway).

If that still doesn't enable secure sites, add the site URL to Security
Tab, Trusted Sites, Sites button. Uncheck Use Verification....

Have you tried resetting the Modem and router? I have the same problem with
One of my computers on my network. For some unknown reason this one computer
will not acess the internet when all the rest are connected, even when the
router shows it's connected. One tell tale symptom will be the mouse will be
slow to respond due to your system looking for a internet connection. I still
have not found the cause and still have to reset the modem and router to get
a connection.
I hope this solves your problem.

Easiest way is to download the 128bit high encryption pack from
microsoft. I had this same problem sometime ago and it worked form me.
Alternatively you can take a look here for some other ideas:

Torgeir, can you explain why these dll's would become unregistered?
The reason that I ask is that I've seen this problem a LOT, both once my
own computer and also with lots of clients. In all cases the box had
sp1. In all cases https pages had been previously accessible to the
user.

If you can offer any other input regarding the information on the
website posted by Adrian I'd be grateful. TIA!

Hi

Sorry, I have no idea about what is causing this...
