You forgot the ability to accept grey market cartridges. For example,
you can't buy cartridges for your north american printer from Japan and
use them, they are bci-7e and get rejected, well unless you set your
destination Japan. That would seem to be bigger than preventing
warranty claims as they issue printheads in advance, and at least in
the USA and according to the rep I spoke with, don't want the old ones
back.
