Canon CLI-8 cartridges from 3rd party (e.g. iP4200)

Secondly, since Canon suggests you NOT return either the ink cartridges
OR the head, that they do not consider the printhead covered under the
warranty, and probably consider it a consumable as well, and that is
regardless of what inks go into the printer, Canon OEM or 3rd party.

Good point. So the only OEM problem could be that the printer was
flooded by ink from e.g. a refilled cartridge - something that can be
proved rather easily.
[...]

DO NOT INCLUDE ANY OTHER ITEMS WITH THE DEFECTIVE PRODUCT IN THE
RETURN SHIPPING CARTON, AND BE SURE TO RETAIN YOUR PRINTHEAD AND INK
CARTRIDGE(S) AND TANK(S).

I was surprised about this hint when I found it. Maybe this limitation
is not within every warranty, since changing the printhead can be almost
impossible sometimes.

However, I doubt that most people do remove it.

Unless something has changed... the head is covered under warranty.

* If you have a head related problem, they send you a new head during
the warranty period. This is sent out next day air.
* If you have a printer related problem, and you can remove the head
and ink, they send
you a referb printer without a printhead and ink. Your choice of
service localy or a referb sent 2nd day air.
- If you have a printer related problem and can not extract the head.
they give you a new printer with head and ink.

*these i've seen personaly.
- This I have not.

What's your argument why they should be afraid of losing that case?

Well, if they win in court they will lose in market share. They hate and love
3rd party products. They lose some profit due to 3rd party competition but
it on the other hand helped in bringing customers to buy their printers.
Selling more printers is always a goal to them.

And the replacement printhead business is booming

Seriously... do you have "any" facts to back up that statement... given
the fact that printheads, thermal printheads, don't have that great of
life to begin with, hardly 10 cartridge changes. Do you have any
evidence to support your opinion that thirdparty products, esp the
major mfs such as Formulabs, Image Specalists, and OCP... do you have
any evidence these even have an affect on printhead life?

I have an open mind on this issue... but you have never in the past
presented any facts... only opinions. Please back up your statements
or risk them being rendered moot.

Any time a part is user-replaceable, like Canon's printheads, means the
part has a limited life by design. Obviously, if they could make them
last longer they would. But they can't at the moment. They expect a
rather high failure rate. So as not to be flooded with a bunch of bulky
returned printers they made the printheads easily removable. This way
it is far easier for them to just send you a new printhead, if under
warranty, or better yet (for them), sell you a new one at a huge profit
- *after* warranty.

Facts??? You're kidding right! Bozo troll never has facts.
p.s. you can thank his ISP for his no longer yelling.
He's on really thin ice with them!
