Canon Chipped Cartridge - Help

Wonder if anyone can put me straight here..!

The ink tanks for the ip4200 etc series printers as you know uses a
chipped tank, I understand that this is for ink monitoring only.

As I understand when these are refilled you lose the ink monitor and
you have to keep a visual eye on the level. So what happens when a
refilled tank runs out on the printers, do they stop as though there
is no ink in.....or do they continue to print even when the head runs
dry, I would imagine it would stop printing.

Be glad to have any confirmation to clear the matter up.

I think everyone is going about is the wrong way, backwards!

The ip4000 and ip4200 are the exact same printers, but canon got greedy and
engineered the 4000 to only use monitoring cartridges.

So, how about figuring out what is different between the two, and turning
4200's back into 4000's, using the basic $2.99 BCI-6 series cartridges and
you'd make a killing!

If anyone has a printhead go bad on a 4200 it would be worth a try to see if
it could be adapted. There are two little "bumps" cast into the printhead
that match depressions at the bottom of the new ink carts. They would have
to be ground away - very carefully so as not to damage the ink intake area.
I don't know if there are other features that key the carts to the
printhead. it would certainly be interesting to see if the 4200 printhead
could be adapted to bci-6 carts!

this is the way canon designed it. unfortunately the only disadvantage
to the chip is they charge a couple of bucks more. it seems that canon
wants all their loyal customers to subsidize the ink sales lost to
relabelers however small.
they burn out the printhead and then canon will sell a new one. the
bottom line is that refilling costs more money than using the
recommended ink.

The ip4000 and ip4200 are the exact same printers,
far from the truth. the ip4000 is a 2picoliter printer that is faster
than the 1 picoliter ip4200. the ip4200 also used a different
formulation of ink.
but canon got greedy and
engineered the 4000 to only use monitoring cartridges.
that is incorrect also
