Cannot use object linking and embedding.

Can someone help. A number of our external sales users
are having issues with Office and the main excel error is
Cannot use object linking and embedding. I can not find
any resolutions on Microsfot or NAI sites as far as
viruses. Could this be a result of the the
W32/Lovsan.worm? Please help.

We have had the same problems, with the same exact
symptoms as you describe. We have been running the
Windows Security Update -
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/treeview/default.asp?
url=/technet/security/bulletin/MS03-026.asp

Then updating NAV/SAV to 081103 and running the
FixBlast.exe that can be found here;
http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w3
2.blaster.worm.removal.tool.html

We have tested on about 5 remote users, all have reported
that thier systems are back to normal now.

Hi all,

had the same pbs and found the same solution as already mentioned.

If using Excel/Office XP (don't know about 2000), also have a look at the
"disabled elements" (About Box) and reenable them.

On some of our systems the pb persisted even after cleaning and patching due
to the above.

Bye.

Hi,

I had all sort of behaviors, depending of operating system, service packs,
etc.

I even had the pb on clean PCs, apparently due to the external attacks on
ports 135, 445, etc...

I suggest you patch your systems and re-enable disabled elements (from the
About Box of Word and Excel) if any.

As far as we were concerned this helped, even on the clean systems
presenting this or other strange behavior.

Bye,
Lutz

We are having the same problem. If you find out anything
please let me know. Thanks, Pam

We were also getting the error in Excel Cannot use object linking and
embedding
as well as the Control Panel Vertical Scroll issue. Be sure that you
installed the MSBlaster patch and rebooted. We noticed the issue after we
pushed the blaster patch on the network on machines that were not rebooted
since the update. Rebooting is the key word.
