Cannot Uninstall Program

J

James

I have a program (Advanced Registry Optimizer)on my computer which
pops up when I turn my computer on, and since it wasn`t needed I
thought I would uninstall, so I went to the add/remove programs in the
Control Panel and when I clicked on Advanced Registry Optimizer to
uninstall a sign pops up that says "Program does not exist cannot
uninstall".

Does anyone know how I can uninstall the program, I`ve even ran System
Restore and that didn`t help.

Have you looked in the c program files program name for an uninstall
file? Might be there, assuming you didn't try to just delete before you
tried add/remove.

The Advanced Registry Optimizer is malware. You will need to clean up your
machine.

Go through these general malware removal steps systematically -
http://www.elephantboycomputers.com/page2.html#Removing_Malware

Include scanning with David Lipman's Multi_AV and follow instructions to do
all scans in Safe Mode.

This site has additional instructions and a link to the download:

You can also check to see if there are targeted removal steps for your
malware here:

When all else fails, run HijackThis and post your log in one of the
specialty forums listed at the first link above (not here, please).

Standard disclaimer: I can't see and test your computer myself, so these are
just suggestions based on many years of being a professional computer tech;
suggestions based on what you've written. You should not take my
suggestions as a definitive diagnosis. If you can't do the work yourself
(and there is no shame in admitting this isn't your cup of tea), take the
machine to a professional computer repair shop (not your local equivalent
of BigComputerStore/GeekSquad). Please be aware that not all local shops
are skilled at removing malware and even if they are, your computer may be
so infested that Windows will need to be clean-installed. If possible, have
all your data backed up before you take the machine into a shop.

I'll butt in here: Look for the My Computer icon on the desktop (if not
there look in your Start menu), open it and double click on the C: . Once
open look for Program Files and open in (by double clicking on it). Look for
the folder that corresponds with the program you want to delete (but don't
manually delete it). If there open it and look for a file that's named
Uninstall or something to that effect and run it. Hope that helps.

Start / All Programs

Look for a folder with the programs name.
If there is one highlight the folder and you may see an uninstall option.

1)Have you tried to find the folder in which the "Advanced Registry
Optimizer" is located? It's likely that the uninstaller is located in there.

2)Otherwise you may try to "reinstall" the 'Advanced Registry Optimizer" by
double-clicking its SETUP icon. In my experience if you try to reinstall a
program WITHOUT uninstalling it first, you'll get a message saying:"Are you
sure you want to remove ("the program's name") and all its components?" Just
click "Yes" and the program will successfully be uninstalled.

Good luck!

No, but after reading your post it was simple almost to embarrassment. But I'm no IT/computer wiz & will sleep okay tonight with that confession;o) I was always perplexed by the notice in lower portion of the ARO Window every time I completly shut down and restarted my computer. In very small highlighted print it shows a "Click Here" option that seems to imply some secret access point to uninstall the ARO software. Ha! It takes you straight to the "uninstall programs" feature in the Control Panel. I tried the suggestion of going to the C;Program Files Page, right clicking each of the two uninstall options of the ARO file looking for something that "looked like" it may be an uninstall option, but to no avail. However, right clicking on the small ARO icon in the LEFT pane of my window opened the door for deletion. Problem solved!!
Thanks Twayne !

You should be more embarrassed to be an EggHeader, responding to a post
several years old.
