Well, you need to be posting with a better error message, other than, the
ones you have posted.

What error message are you getting if any?

What is the exact error message?

Email scanning should be turned off in any anti-virus. It provides no
protection not provided by the regular resident program.
Beside that, McAfee and Norton are not compatible with Windows Mail.

How do you find the answer?
Well, you'd have to post the question first,
complete with details and copy of any error message.

I have just bought a new portable PC with Windows Vista Home Basic. After
having configured my e-mail boxes in Windows Mail I experienced the same
problem as many other beginners of Windows Mail. I could recieve mail, but
not send. To solve this, I called my Internet provider, the Telecom company
Tele2 and explained my problem to the Costumer Service Support section.
The solution was to use an other address for the outgoing mail as the one
for incoming mail. I had to open a new e-mail account with the new Internet
provider to get the right code for User name and Password and the correct
addres for outgoing e-mail. I also had to change the port number from 25
(standard) to 587 special for Tele2. In Windows Vista there is a pop up
window asking for credentials. In this window I also had to change login
name for Tele2 and enter my new password for the new e-mail adress. With
this modifications it was possible to send messages from at least two of my
old e-mail addresses. I have used Windows ME and XP before without this
problem, but this time I had changed my telephone service provider from
Telia to Tele2 and that was probably causing the problems.
