WINDOWS MAIL. I GET AN ERROR MESSAGE THAT SAYS I HAVE A SERVER ERROR NO.

MY VIRUS PROGRAM (AVG free) AND THE PROBLEM STILL OCCURS. CAN ANYONE HELP ME?

Right-click on your error message, copy, then paste it into a reply here.
We can't do much troubleshooting without the complete error message.

Incidentally, your Caps Lock key appears to be stuck.
That may prevent a proper login, as well as being perceived negatively
by the readers here.

i'm in the same position.Unable to send or receive messages for the
(e-mail address removed) account. An incorrect password was entered.
The next time you send or receive messages, you'll be asked to enter your
user name and password for this account.

Server Error: 0x800CCC90
Server Response: -ERR [AUTH] invalid user/password (error 999)
Server: 'mail.btinternet.com'
Windows Live Mail Error ID: 0x800CCC92
Protocol: POP3
Port: 110
Secure(SSL): No

please help me. I have included the info as you wished. Barbara

First, test your password by logging in to your provider's webmail.
If that works, it proves you have the correct username and password.
A likely reason for the username/password failing is account corruption.
One thing you should try as a possible quick fix is to delete that corrupted
mail account, restart Windows Mail, then recreate that account.

If that doesn't fix it, more drastic measures will have to be taken.
Which antivirus are you running?
As a minimum, email scanning in the antivirus must be turned off,
although that may not be sufficient to eliminate all bad effects.
In a worst case scenario, your antivirus may need to be uninstalled.

If turning off the email scanning function does not resolve your problem,
consider upgrading to Windows Live Mail, because it is less prone to
suffering bad effects from overly aggressive antivirus programs.

Email scanning in any antivirus must be disabled, for reasons
explained here:

Yes, I did read your reply. I was not able to right click on the message and
post it into my window for you to see. Do you have any other suggestions?

Assuming you are not familiar with Copy/Paste method.....
Put your cursor over the error message you want to copy
Rest your cursor at the BEGINNING of the error message, left click and HOLD
Slide your cursor across, line by line, until the end of message
Release HOLD. The error message is now all " shaded "
Right click anywhere over the shaded message, click COPY
Go to the e-mail body intended for the newsgroup
Right click on the empty space, click PASTE.

The host 'POP3' could not be found. Please verify that you have entered the
server name correctly.
Account: 'POP3', Server: 'POP3', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL):
No, Socket Error: 11001, Error Number: 0x800CCC0D

This is the error message that I receive after the window pops up asking for
user name and password. I put in the user name and password that are linked
to the account but this window keeps popping up with this message.

Server:"POP3" ......... that is the wrong name.
Who is your ISP ( internet service provider ), the one who connects your
computer and gives you your e-mail address ?

I did copy and paste the error message above, in the 2nd post under
Gary VanderMolen. I am with bellsouth, which I suppose is AT&T now? I have
not changed any settings, added any new email accounts, or anything else, I
just started receiving the sign on screen asking for user name and password,
which I have never used before, and then it comes back with the error.

Are you using Outlook as your e-mail program ?
If yes, try enter ........
mail.bellsouth.net as you POP3 server name
