What if any antivirus programs do you have? Some of them tend to cause
assorted problems in Windows Mail, although seldom immediately.

Also, if you have the Google Toolbar program installed, uninstall it, since
it
also causes problems in Windows Mail.

My AV is Bitdefender and I've unchecked the incoming and outcoming mails, but it didn't work. I also uninstalled the Google toolbar..still doesn't work. Soemhow, though, my web.de accounts work now, but not my yahoo one. it says now:

Account: 'My Mail', Server: 'pop.mail.yahoo.de', Protocol: POP3, Server
Response: '-ERR popgate unknown command', Port: 995, Secure(SSL): Yes, Server
Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC18

Looks like you've got some improvement, but not enough. I'm out of ideas,
though, so you'll have to wait for someone else to offer more help.

"Unknown command" often refers to the use of an unsupported option.
Go to Tools, Accounts, select the account, Properties, Servers.
Uncheck "Log on using Secure Password Authentication."

The email port should be 110 with SSL turned off. I had a similar problem.
Apparently something I loaded or did had changed the account preferences to
port 995 and use SSL which did not work with the cox mail server. It kept
telling me the certificate was invalid , upon reviewing the certificate, it
was trying to go to spop.east.cox.net which was a certificate generated by
thwate. something .something which did not work.

Not sure how your experience with your provider (Cox) translates to
applicable advice for the OP who is using a Yahoo server for at least
one of his accounts. Most Yahoo servers support port 995 and SSL.
