cannot save my document in word

When I open a new document and try to save it does nothing that is for save
and save as but when i exit word, i get the message changes have been made
that affect the global template, Normal.dot. Do you want to save those
changes? if yes is selected nothing happens, and no closes word, what do i do
to fix..
