I have a process that automates printing word documents and I have some
documents that prompt the user to save the changes after the document is
printed. This happens even if you open the document and print it manually.
Here are my steps to reproduce the problem.

1. double click the document to open
2. click Print on the File menu
3. change the printer in the print dialog
4. click ok to print
5. select file exit to close the document
6. then I'm prompted to save my changes.

I have some document where these exact steps don't prompt the user to save
changes and some that do. I would like to know what is causing this so I can
possibly stop this behavior. The documents that prompt are setup with a
template file other than the normal.dot, my guess is something in that
template is causing this behavior but I don't know what.

In any document that contains fields, the fields will be updated when you
print (if you have "Update fields" checked in Tools | Options | Print). This
will "dirty" the document. You can check the Undo list to see if Update
Fields is shown. If so, that's the issue. If you're certain that updating
the fields didn't change anything, you don't have to resave.
