Cannot Reset All Folders to the Default Settings

R

Rob

My OS is Windows XP Pro (SP 2)

While customizing my folder views, etc.... I have changed something that
will not allow me to revert back to "Show Common Tasks In Folders", on the
General tab of Folder Options. Currently my settings are "Use Windows
Classic Folders" and nothing I have tried has allowed me to return the
options back to the default state of Show Common Tasks In Folders. I have
used the "Restore Defaults", "Reset All Folders" and "Apply to all Folders"
buttons on the various tabs of the Folder Options dialogs. These did not
allow me to reset my options to Show Common Tasks In Folders. I have
carefully reviewed and changed the tics in the "Advanced Options", etc.,
still no luck. I have carefully reviewed any and all third party software to
eliminate any possibilities that some tweak or whatever is not controlling
the situation. Finally, I have created a new account with Administrator
rights to determine if this issue is inherent of my system or is isolated to
my User Account, all Folder Options were available in the newly created
account. Thus, it appears the matter effects only my account. Can someone
please tell me what I can do to restore the defaults for Folder Options,
which will allow me to start from scratch and personalize the settings
again?

Many thanks in advance, Rob.

Rob,

What happens when you choose "Show Common Tasks In Folders" and click OK? Perhaps you're using the Explorer view (with Folder paned enabled, which hides the Common Tasks)?

First, thanks much for the response. When I select "Show Common Tasks In
Folders" and click OK, the root tree is hidden and the sub-folders that were
in the right pane moves to the left and there is no division lines for the
panes. In other words, the sub-folders that were displayed in the right pane
moves to the left where the directory tree was. I navigated to the "File
Types" tab of the "Folder Options" and selected the "Folder" option, I
clicked the advanced tab, which displayed "Edit File Types"......the setting
was "open", rather than "explore".

I hope I answered your questions and provided enough information so you can
continue to assist me in resolving this issue. I can provide screenshots or
any other material that would be helpful to you, just let me know what you
need and where you would like me to send it or post it, etc....

Again, I'm grateful for your assistance and the assistance you have
provided many others in the news groups. Thanks, Rob.
