Filmstrip view

I have lost my filmstrip view. I reviewed all previous threads, tried
everything, but cannot get back the TOOLS/FOLDER OPTIONS/GENERAL/TASKS option
of "show common tasks" to activate. This the only help option I found that I
can't get to work. Any suggestions?

In a folder with pix in it, the Filmstrip option is under the View
dropdown menu, if you're talking about XP.

Film Strip Missing

Change the View to Icons (or Tiles or List or Details) then hold down Shift
key and
change the view back to Filmstrip

Added info:

Right click the folder, select properties. Go to customize. Select either
the pictures or photo album option.

You must have common tasks enabled to use the filmstrip view. If you
switched to classic view it is not an option.

Go to Start/Run and type in: regsvr32 shimgvw.dll

Cannot get "filmstrip" as an option is the drop down menu in any photo
folder.
Can't get "customize" as an option in the properties menu of any folder.
Can't get the "task folder" option to activate the "common task"
Still cannot figure out how I lost this function. Is there any chance I
could call you, or you could email me to figure this out?

That is the way it used to work. I do have XP Home edition, and the
filmstrip option has vanished.

When you are viewing your pictures in my pictures in windows XP there
are a series of icons on your tool bar. Back, Forward, Up, Search,
Folders and Views. Click on the last icon on the tool bar and there
should be 6 choices Filmstrip, thumbnails, Tiles, Icons, Lists, Details.
You should be able to click on filmstrip and it should show up.

Not on any of MY WinXP machines.

Could have something to do with the sidebar being enabled/disabled. I never
use that.

Just noticed if you have "Classic Folders" enabled, you won't get the
Filmstrip option.

I have the exact same problem. I am on XP Pro at the moment doing some
volunteer work at my church. The filmstrip view option is available on other
XP machines that I have used at other offices, but it is not showing as an
option here (nor any of the other picture choices like slideshow). "Classic
view" is not enabled.

Here are few notable behaviors;

- If I look at the My Documents\My Pictures directory, Filmstrip and all
the other picture options are available to choose from, and they work.

- If I create a new directory on my desktop and copy pictures into that
folder, the picture options do work.

- The directory I am looking at right now is mapped to another drive on the
network. At first I thought that was the issue, but if I copy the directory I
created onthe desktop onto that same mapped drive, it WORKS!

So, there must be something special about the directory itself which causes
Windows to keep the picture choices from working. I've spent some time
searching the Microsoft support site, but to no avail.

I would greatly appreciate any help on this, because I run into the problem
on other XP machines as well.

I just realized what the issue was for me. The folder in question was a Zip
file. These sorts of "folders" can't be customized.

When I first saw that Microsoft had made Zip files look like directories, I
enjoyed the ease of use, but suspected there would be trouble down the line.
They aren't folders, so making them look like folders wasn't so good... they
should have been different looking.

Right-click a blank space in the folder, click "Customize this folder"
and use "Pictures" as the folder type.
