Hmmm - go to Add/Remove Programs/Windows Components/Network Services.

See whether you have installed;

Advanced Network Pack for Windows XP; or

Windows Peer to Peer Networking

Uninstall these components if you do not wish to use IPv6.

Thanks Doug
yes i uninstalled it. thanks
Now much cleaner output of IPCONFIG
, but the issues still exists.
I cannot ping my Laptop from any resources, The heldesk wants to formate my
machine. but i am little reluctunt to do so as this seems to be a fixable
issue.
I cannot ping to my machine from any computer resource, cannot use share on
my laptop.

Any help if greately appreciated..

I didn't get that quite right - Advanced Network Pack for Windows XP will
appear on the regular Add/Remove Programs list; Windows Peer to Peer
Networking appears as PEER to PEER under Windows Components/Networking
Services.

Try:

1. Disable the wireless adapter - having a wireless and a wired connection
to the same network at the same time can cause multiple issues - you can
easily re-enable the wireless connection when needed.

2. Check your firewall settings - If the XP firewall is enabled, it could
be blocking ICMP (ping) echo. Also, if the SP2 firewall is enabled, you
will need to enable an exception for File and Printer Sharing in order to
access a share on the laptop from other machines. If you are not running
SP2, you should disable the XP firewall altogether when connected to the
office network. If you are running third party security software, you will
have to check the product documentation to determine how to configure it to
allow the access you desire.

Tried all of those. The Firewall is set to off by n/w admin and is a part of
group policy.
SP2 firewall is all set as you have mentioned ,
still the same issue

OK, can other machines ping 10.64.3.25? If not, on the laptop try:

Open a command prompt and execute: netsh winsock reset catalog

If other machines can ping 10.64.3.25, what happens if they run
\\10.64.3.25?

When i ping by ip
all it gives me is request time out.
I ran the below command from the cmd prmt.
it said winsocket reset.
i rebooted the machine, still the same..
\\IP gives me network not found

This still sounds like a firewall or security software issue. If not, it is
possible that this is hardware cable/adapter/driver related, but this is
unlikely since the adapter is getting an IP. Possibly you have a corrupt
TCP/IP stack or other TCP/IP issue. Try one of the LSP fixes, eg:
