cannot open xls file on desktop by double clicking icon.(Win 98)

Paul

I cannot open a (shortcut) xls file on desktop by double
clicking the icon but can open it if I open Excel and
locate that file from within Excel.

When I try to open the desktop file, Excel opens, and I
get a message "...cannot find the file or one of its'
components. Make sure the path and filename are correct
and all required libraries are available."

The path, etc is correct.

Any ideas anyone?

Hi Paul,

Open Excel and choose Tools/Options/General from the menu. Uncheck the
"Ignore other applications" checkbox, then restart Excel and see if the
problem is solved.

Rob,
That worked! Thanks so much, I never would have found that
fix on my own.
