Cannot open Windows Movie Maker

I've never been able to keep WMM 2.1 open. A few seconds after opening, I
get an error message that it has encountered a problem and must shut down.
I've tried everything recommended in a previous post:
http://blogs.msdn.com/deanro/archive/2005/01/18/355050.aspx

I've also uninstalled and reinstalled Windows XP SP2 to reinstall the WMM
software. Still it doesn't help. I've looked in the Administrative tools,
event viewer, and found the errors generated by WMM. The Fault bucket is
131843559. The error message is

Faulting application moviemk.exe, version 2.1.4026.0, faulting module
msvcrt.dll, version 7.0.2600.2180, fault address 0x00037fd4.

I don't know who to send this fault bucket info to or what to do with the
information. Could any please advise me. I'd like to use this software, but
don't know what to do now to get it to work. Thank you.

there are a couple posts about issues with msvcrt.dll... check them on the
Problem Solving > Software Modules page of my site.

I've checked the posts under the software modules area and can't see what I
should do next regarding the msvcrt.dll problem. Do I need to move that file
to a certain place on my computer. I'm really at a loss. Any help would be
appreciated.

I didn't see the answer either or I would have pointed you to it more
specifically... but one of the two seems to have resolved it...

hopefully someone else will give you guidance on what to do.... start by
searching your hard drive for the DLL and seeing if you have different
versions of it in different folders.... if you find a newer version in a
folder than the one in your system32 folder, you could try copying it there
(copying the one in the system 32 folder to put it back if needed).
