Movie Maker Crashes at Startup

Everytime I start WMM i get this error: "Windows Movie Maker has encountered
a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." and some
other details: AppName: moviemk.exe AppVer: 2.1.4026.0 ModName: msvcrt.dll
ModVer: 7.0.2600.2180 Offset: 00037fd4.

I used to have IE7 but someone told me that caused the problem. I got rid of
it but it still happens.

It once worked about 5 weeks ago but now it doesn't. I've reinstalled
DirectX with no result.

Can someone please help me. I don't want to reinstall Windows.

I am facing the same problem, my details is as follow:
AppName: moviemk.exe AppVer: 2.1.4026.0 ModName: msvcrt.dll
ModVer: 6.5.2600.2180 Offset: 0001a513.

For your case, you can uninstall other software like intervideo, restart,
you may help...

Thank you for that info. I uninstalled InterVideo WinDVD Creator & Player and

Thank You So Much! I was about to rip my hair out! :)

Hi, I have the same issue and I have no idea what to do. I hiked up my
virtual memory, i lowered the hardware acceleration, I tried to rename
codecs, etc. I have no idea what else to do because it keeps crashing. It
was working fine yesterday. Could someone please help me :(

Did you install any new programs or updates?

I reformatted my computer today, and the first thing I ran was WMM. I then
installed the updates using update.microsoft.com, tried to use WMM again, and
get a "WMM has encountered an error" window. I think one of the 79 updates I
had has something to do with it.

Was one of the updates IE7?

Same thing here. Worked fine the last time I used it (about a month ago or
so). Today, when I tried to start it, I get the same error message. The
only thing I've installed recently is IE7.

I REALLY need to use WMM. Anyone?!?

There have been some reports that
uninstalling IE7 solved the problem.

You fail to mention your OS...if you are
running Vista...disregard the following.

Some users have reported problems
after installing IE7. If this applies to your
situation ...uninstalling IE7 may be worth
a try.

WMM worked fine for me when I used IE6. I upgraded to IE7 and got the
messages you got. I downgraded to IE6 and it worked gain.

Now I just upgraded to IE8, and WMM stopped working again.

Can anyone help us? I don't want to go back to IE6.

C'mon Microsoft, this is very painful to all Windows users!!!!

FANATASTIC. Thanks eston!!!!!

I now have both MMK and IE8 installed and working (on XP).

Now I just hope I don't need Intervideo Creator. I've had my sytsem 5 years
and have never used it, so I'm hopeful.
