cannot open old .PST file

Guest

I just got a new computer and I installed Outlook 2003 on it. I copied the
Outlook 2000 .PST file from my old computer to a directory on my new machine.
(same directory the .EXE file is is)

Then I go to OPEN>OutlookDataFile>and select my old .PST file.

It acts like it is opening it, but it never shows up the Folder List in the
Navigation Pane.

Also, does the .PST file contain contact addresses and account information,
or are those in some other files.

(If i use the 'Import' function, it seems to get the old e-mail in there
correctly, but I was told this is not the way to do it.)

PST file can contain messages, contacts, calendar, tasks, notes, .etc. It
would not contain POP3/IMAP account settings.

Are you sure you are looking at the "folder list" pane and not the "mail"
pane? (mail pane only shows folders that will contain messages.)

The only other thing that I can think of that might cause it to be hidden
from view is if Outlook thinks its an archive folder. See Tools > Options >
Other tab > AutoArchive button. There is a checkbox about showing the
archive folder in the folder list.

When I look at the file with WindowsExplorer it has the 'A' (archive?)
attribute set. Would this be the same thing?

That means only that the file was updated since the last time Windows Backup
ran and if you don't use Windows Backup, then the attribute is meaningless.
Which folder contains POP3/IMAP settings?

They're contained in the registry, not in any file.
