After applying the 832894 cummulative patch for Internet Explorer I can not longer open fdf files from an oracle java application. The error message (translated) says it cannot open the file and that the file may be corrupt or damaged

Uninstalling the patch solves the problem

Any idea waht is causing this?

Is this a protected site where you must give a password?

http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=831167
SYMPTOMS
Programs that use Wininet functions to post data (such as a user name or a
password) to a Web server retry the POST request with a blank header if the
Web server closes (or resets) the initial connection request.

Hello

Thank you for your reply

Yes, this is a protected site

according to 831167 I have tried adding DWORD values for iexplore.exe
and explore.exe and set their data to 1 in
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Internet
Explorer\Main\FeatureControl\Retry_HeaderOnlyPOST_OnConnectionReset

But that didn't help

Do you think adding the registry keys suggested in 834489 will help?

AcroRd32.exe DWORD and set value data to 0

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Internet
Explorer\Main\FeatureControl\FEATURE_HTTP_USERNAME_PASSWORD_DISABLE

iexplore.exe and explorer.exe DWORD and set their value data to 0

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Internet
Explorer\Main\FeatureControl\FEATURE_HTTP_USERNAME_PASSWORD_DISABLE

Neither article makes it particularly clear but the same treatment
would have to be given to any proxy programs you might happen
to be using.

If you have RegMon you can watch how the switches are tested
by using FeatureControl as its input filter.
