After 832894, IE Ends Process When Visiting Sun's Java Site

Installing the 832894 IE security patch proves interesting when you go
to www.java.com and try to go to Sun's Java Download page (upper right
corner). For some reason, clicking on the link will end the IE
process. Ends IE even if you right click to open a new IE window. All
IE windows close when the process ends... no warnings, just gone in
the blink of an eye. The link has a redirect in it, although this
should not end the IE process (close all IE windows). Uninstalling
832894 corrects the problem althought I prefer to have better
security. Anyone else have this problem and hopefully a fix.

System: XP Pro (all critical updates) and IE 6.0.2800.1106 with all
patches.

Thank you,
kangar

I.E. closes, 3 possible reasons.

Try this: Tools > Internet Options > Advanced > Browsing
Uncheck the Enable 3rd party browser extensions

If this clears your problem then find out who the culprit is with these
tools.

Found other sites like www4.passur.com/lax.html. For some reason,
clicking on the links will end the IE process. Ends IE even if you
right click to open a new IE window. All IE windows close when the
process ends... no warnings. This link doesn't have a redirect in it,
therefore something else is the cause.

Talked to a friend who has a similar system running XP Pro and he
experienced the web page not opening, no error message, and it didn't
end the IE process. What a mess for those that do not understand what
the auto update did to their systems.

This is a pain so I used the XP Restore function to uninstall 832894.
Look in the Restore Calendar for "Windows Update V4" and try this for
the restore versus a check point which leaves your desk top and other
nice things in an unwanted state.

Good Luck,

Did some further testing and found that if I did the Restore function
described above and then rebooted into Safe Mode w/Networking and
performed the install using IE Windows Update, that I no longer had
the IE Process end when I visited the stated web sites. Hope this
helps, however, I do not know why the normal mode IE Windows Update
process failed.

Although I appreciate the suggestions, trying the three reasons for IE
closing did not fix the problem. Did some further testing and found
that if I did a Restore function (using "Windows Update V4") to remove
832894 and then rebooted into Safe Mode w/Networking and performed the
install using IE Windows Update, that I no longer had the IE Process
end when I visited the stated web site plus others.

Hope this process helps others with their 832894 issues, however, I do
not know why the normal mode IE Windows Update process failed.

Good Luck - Kangar
