Re: my post regarding the W2K Iomegaware Corruption
(5/12/04).

I tried to perform an in-place upgrade of Win 2000 and I
still get the message "'bellsouth' is an invalid
name.....etc....."

In the Event Viewer, I get an errorfor Service Contro
Manager (7023), and Rasman (20035). I have no idea what
all that means, but occasionally and 'Windows Installer'
window appears on the screen stating "preparing to
install", and I don't know what is being prepared for
installation, but afterwards, this 'Service Control
Manager' error shows up in the Event Viewer that coincides
with the same time I was observing the 'Windows Installer
message.

Any suggestions as to what I do next?

You mention you tried the upgrade. Did it finish? Did you reapply your
service pack and any hotfixes per this article?

Yes, I tried and finished the upgrade, and I applied the
SP4 (recently downloaded from Microsoft Support. I don't
know of any Hotfixes I had installed.

I get numerous System Control Manager and Rasman errors.
It seems that at most every request for service (via
clicking on a program/icon) I get this 'Windows Installer'
window and a subsequent error message in the Event Viewer.

You'll need to visit the Windows Update site for any outstanding fixes. If
the in-place upgrade didn't fix the problem it may be time for a clean
install.
