Cannot log in to Windows 2000 after upgrade from Win98se

After Upgrading from Win98se to Win2000pro SP4, I cannot
log into windows. What happens is a "looping logon"
situation. I can enter my correct username and password,
the login screen clears for a second, and then it just
brings me back to the login screen once again. I've
tried logging in as the administrator and also as on of
the users with the same result. If I enter an invalid
username or password, I get the usual message telling me
that I've entered an invalid username/pw. So it seems to
be authenticating my login attempt, but after the login,
it's as if something has told the system to log me off.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Chuck

It seems your upgrade from Win98 to Win2000 failed.
I recommend that you start with a clean installation.
While your upgrade path is available, it is unlikely to
give you a solid and robust installation of Win2000.

I have the same problem on a Windows 2000 installation
that worked for two yearsm but seems now to be corrypted
(virus).

I suspect it is something in registry.
