cannot install printer driver

Hey all,
I am trying to install a printer driver on a winxp machine. It has all the
current updates. I am able to install an hp8 driver without problems. I am
setting the computer to print on a second network printer. The installation
appears to go fine but when i go to printer properties and try to print a
test page i get "the ... printer driver is not installed on this computer...
do you want to install it now?" and i am in loop. I have uninstalled the
driver and deleted the contents of the spool folder, reinstalled and same
issue. On other computers in the area i am able to install the driver and
they work fine. so its computer specific. Any ideas? Thanks in advance, Rick

Rick,

1) What's the make/model of the printer?

2) Right-click | Properties | Ports. Do you see the driver listed?

3) Parallel, USB or network connection? If network, do you have the correct IP address?

4) Is the printer local to another machine on the network? If so, is there a firewall
blocking things?

5) Is the printer shared or in the directory?

Awaiting your response

Log on to the internet and do a search (Google search if you have it) for
"HP install network printer wizard" Download and Run this software and let
us know what it tells you. Be prepared to have the software ask you for the
printers IP address. If you do not know how to get this on your network let
us know.
