Unable to install canon print driver

Just got a new computer with xp pro sp2. I am unable to install the print
driver for my canon i560. Using canon cd, the process copies the files over
and over again and eventually says that it is unable to find the printer.
using windows new hardware, i get a message that says there was an error
installing the driver. Just to check, i uninstalled the drivers on my other
computer (which is xp media center sp2) and re-installed. It worked fine.
Also, I was able to install the drivers for my epson r200 printer on the new
computer without a problem. Both printers are USB connected. Any ideas?
Thanks

Canon printer install directions are VERY specific. You
CANNOT bypass/ignore ANY of them. They come up
when you insert the install CD.

If you plugged your printer into the USB port BEFORE
you installed the drivers you have shot yourself in the foot.
Canon install directions are VERY specific in that you should
never do this (unless things have changed in the last year - I have
not needed to install any of their drivers recently). It's covered
on the Quick Start sheet.

On the CD (at least every one I have had for Canon printers)
there's a page that explains how to recover from a botched install -
try that.

Or go to their Web site for similar info.

Try a different USB port.

Bob I said:
I followed the instructions exactly, and tried the steps given if the install
doesn't work. Still no luck. I believe that it is something with the new
computer since I was able to uninstall and reinstall on my other computer
just fine.

I have 3 usb ports (it's an HP notebook) and have now tried them all with no
luck. The epson printer works fine on all of them.
