As the subject says, I cannot install because it tries to go to drive E: that
does not exist and I do not know how the change that. The installer does not
give me an option of location... ??? Why would it go to a drive other than
C: ???

I am a bit baffeled

Hello Ken,

More specifically, what is Drive E: on your system... a CD, a DVD, a second
internal/external hard disk? It would also be good to know what you have
mounted (or inserted) at drive E if there is anything there.

For the benefit of the community reading this post, please rate the pºst.

I hope this post is helpful.

Let us know how it works ºut.

Hello,

There is NO drive E:\. Not onboard, mapped, network or external. There were
some mapped drives in the past. Like a year but none are mapped now, I
checked that...

as I recall, one way to work around this is to create such a drive--if you
are in position to map (or maybe even subst) a

Yea! Like Duhhh Why didn't I think of a subst... Works like a champ in
about 10 seconds... Thank you...

Thing is, why is the system in the installer looking for drive E:???

Ken

As to the why, I don't know--I think it is probably a generic bug--i.e. a
bug in the installer, rather than something Defender specific. Is it
possible that some earlier beta version would have been installed from an E:
drive?

It's an easy one to forget about--even old-line command prompt junkies are
starting to forget about some of this stuff!

Mapping the drive worked for me. None of the registry hacks did or finding
the gcasSWUpdater
