Cannot install 328310 Update

I have Windows XP with SP1 on a new computer. On attempting to install Sims
Superstars a message says that the 328310 update should be installed first.

However having downloaded the update and attempted to install it the
following message is received:

"WEUpdate cannot retrieve information needed for setup from database. Setup
cannot continue."

Thanks for any suggestions on how to proceed.

I don't know much about that update, but you can install Superstar without
it. I did and so far I have had it installed 3 weeks and I have had no
trouble.
