Cannot insert a background sound with MS Word XP professional edition! Why
not now, I could before.

Instructions = "On the Web Tools toolbar, click Sound . "
Error message manually typed message is:
This object was created in HTMLInlineSoundCtl.
This application is not available to open this object.
Make sure the application is properly installed and that it jas not been
deleted, moved, or renamed.

google search = http://support.microsoft.com/kb/886299

or CAUSE:
The ActiveX controls were disabled in Windows XP SP2 because they pose a
security risk. There is no supported workaround to enable this functionality
in Microsoft Office.

So does this mean that I can no longer use my MS-Word in Office XP for web
page creation or is there another way to embed a background sound? Another
application perhaps?
Please help me resolve this inexplicable error caused by Windows XPspk2

Sorry, I didn't read your entire post, which indicates that you have already
read this KB article. The answer is that there is no workaround. You can
still use Word for Web page creation (though it's far from the best
application for that purpose), but you cannot embed background sounds.

Suzanne - an unpaid volunteer - posts hundreds of answers here every month
trying to help ungrateful wretches like you. You can't do what you wanted;
deal with it.

Yes Suzanne I acknowledge that and it's Microsoft that has made their own
software not backward compatible that annoys me as does the false quoting
that Tony Jollans had in his post! Looking at the typing suggests drinking
on the job ! I never poted any of his supposed quote of mine! Where on earth
did I post
"Enjoy,
Tony

Yes Tony and I have apologised in previous posts but it is an extremely
aggravating problem that Microsoft has given itself and her original reponse
was completely unhelpful as she realised herself because she never completely
read my first post. You say deal with it so how would you deal with it when
all you have is office xp without frontpage?

It's not so much a matter of backward compatibility here is that the
functionality was removed from *all* versions for "security" reasons. I
don't know anybody that's especially happy about it. I don't have any
experience with or expertise in PowerPoint, so I can't suggest whether it
could be used to create Web pages, but I can't imagine it would be much more
satisfactory than Word, and I'm told that Publisher is even less desirable
(though it might allow you to do what you want to do).

As for FrontPage, it has been discontinued and replaced with a handful of
different apps, none of which is an exact replacement (see
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/frontpage/HA101205221033.aspx). I
understand there is also a free app made available by MS for Web page
creation; see
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/officelive/FX101534261033.aspx.

THANK YOU Suzanne. lol
Powerpoint can still embed sounds as part of the animations but I don't know
how to do a continual backgriund sound. :(
Your last post has been gratefully marked helpful, cheers and sorry again
for my frustrated rant yesterday.

Frustration makes us all testy.
