Cannot get rid of black border around MS Outlook (XP Home) 2002

Well, I know I'm on an outdated version but until now, it has worked
beautifully. All my applications work great on my also outdated laptop (Dell
w/2.00 GHz Intel Celeron CPU and 256 MB RAM). However, when I bring up
Outlook, all windows/open apps minimize and a thick black border surrounds
the apps on the screen. The border is probably 1 1/2" to 2" on all four
sides. I have to work in Outlook miniaturized. As soon as I close Outlook,
all the apps return to full screen.

I've never seen anything like this before. Cannot find any supporting help
docs. Anybody out there familiar with this? It's kind of hard to explain.

Any insight is greatly appreciated :)

Just a thought;
If you start your PC in safe mode, does the same thing occur?
If the problem is not replicated you might want to look on Dell for any
updated drivers for your model
BTW adding a 256mb ram stick would probably make a world of difference to
your general useage
