Problems with Outlook 2007 playing sound when I get new mail

I have enabled all the proper settings in Advanced options to play sound,
etc. I have assigned a sound in Control panel "Sound" applet.
Unfortunately, when I get new mail, the "Sound" that I assigned doesn't
always play to alert me of new mail. Today, I left Outlook open and
minimized...and 12 new mails came in with NO auditory warning...even though
my settings are all there. I am about to give up on Outlook and go back to
Eudora to get things normal again. Sometimes my warning works and other
times, NO...

System Specs

Core 2 Quad 2.66 GHZ Processor
Windows Vista Ultimate 64 Bit SP-1
Office 2007 Enterprise SP-1
Creative Labs X-fi Sound Card

Any ideas why this auditory warning works so sporatically?

Does it work with the default mail alert sound provided by your Windows
version?
Note that the sound is only played for messages that arrive in your Inbox
folder and not to any other folder.
Depending on the mail account type that you are using you can create a rule
as well to play a sound for any other emails that come in.

Not really sure. The default sound is not very audible. Also...I can
actually be sitting there and watch mail come into my inbox and no sound is
heard. The mail arrives...and I wait for something to happen...and it
doesn't. Am not sure why this happens. Is it, perhaps, because I am running
Vista 64 Bit?????

Thanks

I am having the same problem and I also have Vista 64 bit with Outlook 2007.
It does work sometimes, but not very often and I have checked and re-checked
the settings. This is not my first rodeo - I didn't forget the soundcard or
anything like that,.
