cannot download updates to disk

Guest

Hello,

I am having a lot of trouble with this ...so really need some help.

I want to download all the hotfixes since I installed XP/sp1 ( to slipstream
them) but when I try to get them from windows update it refuses. The
windowsupdate.log says that it's because I already have the updates(true).

If I can't download updates to disk that I already have installed then how
can I remove the ones I have or get rid of wherever XP keeps a record of this
stuff ?

thanks much

You're trying to download in the wrong place. Go here instead:

How to download updates and drivers from the Windows Update Catalog or
from the Microsoft Update Catalog:

Hi Malke,

I *am* trying to download from the site you suggest :
v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com
I can download drivers for my hardware, but I want to download about 100
hotfixes to slipstream them.

Is it true that if one has these hotfixes already installed on the machine
that they can't be downloaded ?

(my windowsupdate.log file shows that there is acheck being performed and
that I already *have* these updates so it seems to refuse to d/l ?)

No.

No. You're doing something wrong but since you aren't very descriptive
about what you're doing, I can't guess what. Perhaps you're hitting Run
instead of Save, but I really have no idea. Thousands - if not millions
- of people have no problem downloading Windows Updates separately from
the Catalog to use in slipstreaming and deploying, so it is something
you're not doing right but I have no idea what.

It's not clear what you are doing, to tell why it isn't working but one way
to do this is to lookup the update history, note the KB article numbers,
then search the KB for each article and follow the links in them for
downloading the updates.

http://support.microsoft.com/search/?adv=1

This should work just fine as well using the windows update catalog so I
don't know what you're doing wrong.

HI Rock,

No I don't know what I am doing wrong either.

I can download a C-media driver update ok,
but d/ling a hotfix just fails. After I have accepted the Eula, the screen
just returns to the first page when I logged on to the website, my download
basket is full of 23Mb but no download.

*Thankfully* a MS pro is on the case for me :).
If it doesn't work I'll be d/ling each hofix as you suggest.
Mani.

To download an update you don't need to accept the EULA. That only happens
when you are trying to install it.

Tip: Experienced users /never/ install third-party hardware or software
updates offered by Windows Update. Get 'em from the manufacturers' websites
instead.

but experienced users were n00bs too... :)

Mani,

You could always go here http://www.softwarepatch.com
and download whatever updates/hotfixes you already have on your
computer straight from there... I've done it, it's not the worst thing
in the world...

geez...okay then supplemental EULA.

I've never seen any EULA when downloading an update, though I must admit I
have no idea what you mean by supplemental EULA. If it's an update for
which the system needs to be validated before it will download it first
displays a page with the update listed and the prompt to click for
validation. When validated it takes you to the download page where there is
a link to click to start the download. There is some info on that page
about the update, but no agreement. If validation is not needed then
obviously the first part is omitted.

Here is an example of an update offered by Windows Update released 2/7/2007
February 2007 cumulative time zone update for Microsoft Windows operating
systems
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/931836/en-us

Click on the "Download the Update for Windows XP package now" link. It
takes you to the download page where validation is required. Click
"Continue" for validation and when that completes it takes you to this
download page:

I would never get MS updates from any where but MS.

Duh.Can't you understand that 'all the hotfixes since sp1' means including
those *after* sp2?

otherwise I would have said 'all the hotfixes UP TO sp2'

AND to think that you are trying to defend yourself with a silly
explanation...jeez

P

PA Bear

But you didn't say "all the hotfixes since sp1", you said "since I installed
XP/sp1". That would include the 100+ updates that are included in SP2.

Why would I joke? And why did you start a new thread about this? I gave
you detailed info on how to download the updates. You don't seem to want
to be helped. I'm wasting time here. Good luck to you.
