How to Stop Unwanted Update Notification?

L

LadyHeyoka

I keep getting an update or hotfix notification for XML 4.0, but I do not
have XML, I have XP. I tried downloading the update, but obviously it
doesn't install because i don't have XML. The notification keeps returning
and I can't see the option to "hide this update" or "do not show this update
again". Currently, the little update shield is sitting in my system tray and
I can't get rid of it. I tried reporting the issue to Micorosoft, and they
referred me here to the forum for answers. None of their FAQs deal with how
to get rid of an unwanted update. Help??? Thank you!!

That update is part of WinXP
Run MS Update, review update history
Locate failed update, click on ? icon for info and maybe a cure
Or post to windowsupdate group

critical security update MS08-069, and there may be more than one of them!
