Cannot download files

I am suddenly unable to download files to my hard drive. The SAVE AS box
arrives and then whist I am navigating to the correct folder IE closes down.

I have no problem with opening web pages or even opening the file from the
internet just if I want to save to my hard drive

Can anyone help?

I had the same problem after installing Windows Defender. When I uninstalled
Windows Defender, the problem was solved, and I was able to download files.
