Cannot disconnect from dial-up session

I just recently re-installed W2k (Originally ME, but not
for long)on my Compaq 5104US. After re-installing all the
latest drivers I tranferred my ISP dial-up settings and
went online. I can close IE without a problem. However,
when I try to disconnect it never does. I need to either
unplug the phone line or reboot the computer. Also, if I
right-click the connection and choose "Properties" I get
an "Unexpected Error" message. Any comments or advice
would be helpful. Thank you.

did you go online without a firewall? how about current virus protection??
got all your patches up to date? if you didn't have everything up to date
plus have a firewall i would guess you have a virus/trojan/dialer/hijacker.
if everything was up to date and protected i would remove the modem and
reinstall from scratch.

p.s. if your virus scanner isn't up to date you should probably hurry up and
update it.. using your real email address on here will get you spammed by
viruses pretty quick.

Thanks for the advice.

All my MS patches are up-to-date. However I did not have a
firewall or virus protection installed. I did a scan using
TrendMicro's HouseCall and it came back clean. Do you
still think it's likely a virus?

I will install my anti-virus/firewall tonight.

Thanks again.

could still be a trojan/adware/spyware/dialer... not sure if trend's
housecall checks for all that stuff. try the free versions of adaware and
spybot s&d, they catch most of the common hijackers and stuff like that.
it only takes a few minutes even on a dialup connection to get gaobot,
msblaster, or sasser, but i would hope that trend would catch them.
visiting the wrong website can get you lots of nasty stuff including dialers
that keep calling 900 numbers instead of the number you want to call.
