cannot delete temp file

Hi-

In trying to use the MS workaround for a corrupt cache, I have deleted the
"Content.IE5" folder.

One of the four random folders within it has a file called "search[1]",
which will not delete: the error message is "Cannot delete file: cannot read
from the source file or disk"

As a result, the "Content.IE5" folder and the one sub-folder cannot be
deleted either. For the moment, I've simply stuck the folder on my desktop,
but it bothers me - I'm concerned it may still have the impact of corrupting
the cache.

Anyone have a solution on this?

Which OS? You wouldn't normally delete the Content.IE5 folder- you would
delete the entire TIF folder.

Ah, perhaps that is the problem. I read the article to mean the deletion
started at the Content folder, not up another level. I'll give that a try
and report back.

OS is XP, Home edition, without SP 1.

Very odd. I cannot delete the Content.IE5 folder from the desktop, nor can
I move it back to the TIF folder...tried both dragging and cut-and-paste.

Also, cannot delete TIF folder...message is that it is a system folder, and
can't be deleted.

Do you suppose there's any harm in leaving the Content folder on the desktop
with that one random folder and one stray file in it?

By the way, whether it matters, IE6 has not created a new Content folder in
the TIF folder in my administrator account, as the article suggested it
would, although it has done so in another user's account following deletion
of the Content folder there.

In fact, it was not a KB article, but, ironically enough, the very same
article to which you are pointing me now. I am thinking where I went wrong
is in not setting up another account with admin privileges. I've used the
admin account as my everyday user account from the beginning. I do wish MS
would provide this kind of advice with OS.
