I have a 700MB movie on my computer that I'm trying to delete but I can't.
It keeps saying another program is using the filke and you must close the
program before deleting it.

There's no other file using the movie and I tried restarting the computer
and it didn't work.

PLEASE HELP!

Thanks in advance guys,
Mike

This may be something todo with shmedia.dll,
the "avi properties handler". Many of us in this
group have unregistered this program permanently !
See if this works: Open a CMD box and enter
regsvr32.exe /u "c:\windows\system32\shmedia.dll"

Then delete the video file.

Then re-register:
regsvr32.exe "c:\windows\system32\shmedia.dll"

Well, I've always been wondering what kept my avi's cached like that. But
I'm curious, what sort of things are disabled when this is unregistered. If
it doesn't impede my regular stuff, I'd like to know how to permenatly
unregister it.

With the dll registered, you get a summary of the AVI properties.
Right click the AVI and select summary/advanced. It gives you info on
the frame rate, codec used, height*width, etc, etc.

If you unregister it this summary no longer works. Frankly I prefer
it this way, the "Lock" that this process does (imho),is not worth the
aggravation. I'd rather drag and drop the AVI to virtualdub or use
Gspot to get this info.
