Cannot delete icons from desktop

J

Joyce

I have the following icons on my desktop which appear after I open IE:

Travel, Poker, CardGames, Printer Cartridges, Casino Online, Bingo and
Website Hosting.

It is impossible to delete or to move these icons. When I click on them, IE
opens. Does anyone have any ideas? Driving me crazy. Thank you.

Did you try to right click on them and select Delete?

What You Should Know About Spyware
http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/spyware/devioussoftware.mspx

CAUTION!!!!! Before you try to remove spyware using any of these programs ,
download a copy of LSPFIX from any of the following sites:
http://www.cexx.org/lspfix.htm
http://www.spychecker.com/program/winsockxpfix.html
(if your OS is Win2k or XP) The process of removing certain malware may kill
your internet connection. If this should occur, this program, LSPFIX, will
enable you to regain your connection.

See
Dealing with Unwanted Malware, Parasites, Toolbars and Search Engines

Note that AdAware and SpyBot S & D will each catch some things the other
won't. Also, each needs to be updated with the program's update function
before every use, even when just downloaded. There's also a lot more to do
than just those two programs. CWShredder is also available here:

**Post your HijackThis log to

http://www.wilderssecurity.com/ or the Spyware forum at
http://forum.aumha.org/viewforum.php?f=30 for expert analysis, not here.**
Alternative download pages for Ad-Aware, Spybot, HijackThis and CWShredder
may be found on this page:

I absolutely tried right clicking, that was the first hint I had that
something was wrong. No menu comes up when right clicking.

Thanks though.

Sorry, I ran Adaware and Spybot... nothing turns up there either.

Go to: http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm
Download "Hijack This!" [freeware]

Unzip, double-click "HijackThis.exe" and Press "Scan".

When the scan is finished, the "Scan" button will change into a "Save Log"
button.
Click: "Save Log" (generates: "hijackthis.log")

Next, go to the below location:
http://www.spywareinfo.com/forums/

Sign in, go to the "Spyware and Hijackware Removal" section.
Press "New Topic" and post a description of your symptoms. If they need to
see your log they will ask for it.

Downloaded HiJack and saved HiJackThis log. Went to the Major Geeks site,
but when I tried to register was told they were not accepting anymore
registrations at this time. Guess I'm hooped. Thanks anyway.

Well Frank think I have it beat... keeping fingers crossed. Did what you
said, looked at the log myself, and deleted 4 items which were search bars,
which I didn't think I needed.... and voila... the icons have disappeared,
at least for the time being. Thanks for all your help.
