On my wifes computer she has a couple incomplete mp3
files and wants to delete them, but when she try's it
says that the file is in use by someone else. I tried to
delete in safe mode, but still get the same message. Any
ideas here???

Hi,

Open the media player, delete that file from the playlist. Close, then retry
deleting the file

There are no programs running. The error says; Close any
programs that might be using this file and try again.
It won't even let you rename the mp3 file.

- Open Task Manager and leave it running.
- Open a DOS shell (aka Command Prompt).
- In the DOS shell, navigate to the path of where is the problem file.
- Use Task Manager to kill of all instances of "explorer.exe". This
will make your desktop disappear.
- In the DOS shell, delete the file.
- In Task Manager, use File -> New Task to start a new instance of
"explorer.exe". Your desktop reappears.
- Exit Task Manager and the DOS shell.

It is possible that explorer.exe itself has a reference to the file
which blocks renaming or deleting the file. Obviously you should close
all other applications before attempting this to see if one of them has
the file opened.
